3e place : On this picture, a mouse has been placed on an elevated plus maze. This apparatus is composed of two opposing “safe” arms that have transparent walls and two opposing “more risky” arms that are opened to the outside. Mice will naturally prefer spending time in the closed arms but at some points they will explore the opened arms. In the context of a nxiety-like disorders, we expect mice to decrease their time exploring the opened arms. On the contrary, an anxiolytic treatment could increase this time of exploration. On this picture, this mouse is at the exact crossing point between one opened arm and the two closed arms. This mouse has choice to either go exploring the risky place or to decide not to. Dare you? In this apparatus, closed arms are transparent which make the mouse to reflect in one of them. This gives the impression of a chimaera mouse.
