  • Sujet : Animal model of binge drinking and its relevance to find new treatments for Alcohol Use Disorders

Abstract :

Alcohol use disorders is a major public health issue with about 10% of the adult population affected by this disease. Despite a global decrease in the total amount of alcohol consumed over the last decades, some specific paterns of consumption remain high and stable such as binge drinking. Binge drinking is usually defined as a large amount of alcohol consumed over a short period of time. In this presentation I will give an overview of what is known on this specific alcohol-related behavior and its consequences. I will then present an animal model of binge drinking we developped in our laboratory in Amiens. Finally I will focus the second part of the presentation on the use of this model in order to develop new treatments such as the different enantiomers of baclofen and psychedelics (psilocybin).
